Apple is just one year away from launching a new generation of iPad Pro 2022, which has been nicknamed by Apple fans as “the iPad Pro 2022”. Different than the previous models, this new model could feature a glass back to enable wireless charging and most likely the 5G support, via the company’s popular MagSafe technology.
Design and display: no miniLED 11-inch model for iPad Pro 2022
Rumors of a new design for the iPad Pro 2022 began to spread in June 2021. According to Mark Gurman of Bloomberg, this iPad could have a glass back that will allow wireless charging, most likely via MagSafe. In December, the reporter confirmed his previous report.
Wireless charging replaces the traditional power cord with an induction pad, making it easier for users to charge their device’s battery. It has become a common feature on smartphones, but it is a rarity among tablets. Apple added wireless charging to iPhones in 2017, and last year updated it with a magnet-based MagSafe system that provides more consistent charging speeds.
The company tested the same MagSafe system for the iPad Pro. Wireless charging is likely to be slower than connecting the charger directly to the iPad’s Thunderbolt port, which will remain with the following models.
Additionally, a glass back could be included to enable wireless charging capabilities using MagSafe. The 11-inch iPad would retain an LCD display, while the 12.9-inch model could finally feature a miniLED display—a technology that Apple acquired from Hoberman Technologies in 2020.
According to our sources, the company has produced prototypes of the iPad Pro with the larger Apple logo (as is the case with the new MacBook Pro), but this one is made of glass. Thanks to this, the power is transmitted through the logo on the glass. The prototype also has stronger magnets to prevent accidents and supports charging at higher speeds than MagSafe for iPhone.
As for the display, Apple is likely to offer two different sizes: 11 “and 12.9”. Although the 11-inch model is said to switch to an LCD panel for a miniLED display, analysts Ross Young and Ming-Chi Kuo recently said that Apple will continue to use LCD technology for less money. iPad due to high production costs.
Processor and storage options
The latest rumors indicate that the M2 chip will be used in the upcoming iPads released in 2022, as well as a redesigned MacBook Air.
Apple has been either improving or changing its products every year, so it’s not surprising if one of the new things for the next iPad Pro is a faster processor. The M2 chip that is rumored to appear on a redesigned MacBook Air will also be included in the upgraded iPad Pro of 2022.
Given the storage options, Apple is likely to continue with the same options because there is no more than 2 TB of storage, which means:
- 128GB;
- 256GB;
- 512GB;
- 1TB;
- 2TB.
With Apple rejecting 64GB iPhone models and all new Macs starting at 256GB, it makes sense for the company to launch the 2022 iPad Pro with 256GB of storage instead of 128GB.
Battery, 5G, and new accessories
Apple is working on a new iPad Pro with a larger battery because some users have complained that the Magic Keyboard is causing too much battery failure. Not only that, but as you’ve read in this summary, Apple is likely to introduce the ability to charge the iPad Pro 2022 with a MagSafe charger faster than is available for the iPhone.
While there are no rumors about the capabilities of the 5G iPad Pro 2022, it is likely that Apple will bring more bands for the upcoming model. There was no talk of a new accessory either, but since the company plans to introduce a MagSafe connection to charge the iPad Pro, at least the Smart Folio and Magic Keyboard will get some tweaks.
When will the iPad Pro 2022 be launched?
We believe that this new iPad will be introduced in the second half of this year. Although we originally believed the company planned to unveil the redesigned MacBook Air with this tablet, it looks like the new Mac may be announced in June.
Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman said in his Power On newsletter that Apple is likely to launch this new iPad Pro in September and November.
How much will the iPad Pro 2022 cost?
The 2021 12.9-inch iPad Pro received a $ 100 price increase with the addition of a miniLED display. We don’t think Apple will change the price of the iPads Pro, mainly because it won’t carry the 11-inch miniLED.
- 128GB: $799
- 256GB: $899
- 512GB: $1,099
- 1TB: $1,499
- 2TB: $1,899
iPad Pro 12.9-inch with Wi-Fi
- 128GB: $1099
- 256GB: $1199
