A police officer on Reddit shared that the Apple Watch fall detection feature saved a woman’s life.
When the Apple Watch Series 4 was announced, one feature that didn’t get as much press was how it played a huge part in helping an elderly woman who had accidentally fallen. A police officer had responded to the emergency call from her home and found her in her kitchen. She had dislocated her shoulder and hit her head pretty hard. The officer said that when he went to help put the woman back on a chair, she came off balance and fell. This is where the watch helped the most. It detected the fall immediately, called emergency services, let them know where they were, and alerted the family of the situation. The call lasted about 20 minutes according to the officer and ended with him saying goodbye to “Grandma” she was still warm to touch so she may have been in there for a while.
